You have taken the first step scholastically to become part of tradition of excellence. Students must submit a completed packet before their first day of participation to Athletic Clearance for review and acceptance.

  • Must be completed on or after June 1st of the current school year.

  • It is not the same as a school entry physical.

  • Part to be completed by the Doctor is Page 3 and 4.

  • Remaining parts are completed by the parent in its entirety.

  • Signatures where needed.

For ALL Sports the following applies:

After 26 hours (approximately 3 weeks) of intramural activity, a travel team will be selected to participate in a competition traveling team against other schools in the county. During the Intramurals, students will be taught the skills necessary to participate in the sport and what will be expected on the scoring rubric. In order to try out for the travel team, each student must attend no less than 50% of the intramural activity. Roster size is limited, so come out and do your best! For each student making the travel team, there will be a uniform cost/fee(varies by sport). There will also be an opportunity for parents and family to purchase spirit wear and support shirts for their student athletes.  THERE IS NO COST OR FEE FOR INTRAMURALS.

BASKETBALL

There will be a separate Boys and Girls Basketball team.

CHEER

Cheer is an Intramural activity only. It is aco-ed opportunity to learn teamwork and have fun in the process. The students who make the squad will cheer at the Basketball Games and possibly participate in a cheer competition.

CROSS COUNTRY

Cross-Country is a long distance style running event that is 2.0 miles at the Middle School level.  Races take place with multiple schools at a time. Varsity teams are made of the top 7 boys and top 7 girls from each school. JV teams are made of the remainder of the runners in a co-ed format.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Flag Football is an opportunity for all male and female students in any grade (6-8) to learn a fun and exciting sport! You must provide your own mouth guard.

SOCCER

This is a co-ed sport. You must have NOCSAE approved shin guards. If you have not purchased guards yet, please look for the NOCSAE seal when you buy them.

TRACK AND FIELD

This is a Co-ed opportunity for students to learn about the events that take place in Track and Field.

VOLLEYBALL

This is a girls only sport. You must provide or purchase your own knee pads.

Standards to Participate in any WHMS Athletic Program

Health Insurance

  • Front and back of insurance should be uploaded to the online athletic packet.

  • If the student does not have health insurance it is highly encouraged that they receive it prior to participating.

Academic Standards

Students participating in interscholastic competition must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0. Eligibility will be determined by the cumulative GPA at the end of the previous semester. 6th graders that are regularly promoted are eligible for the first semester of their first year, and then the normal eligibility rule applies.

Attendance Standards

All students are required to attend at least 50% of their academic schedule each school day in order to participate in athletics.

Conduct Standards

According to the Lake County Student Code of Conduct, a student receiving two (2) out of school suspensions shall lose privileges accorded to students in good standing with the Lake County School

System. The loss of privilege may include: attendance and participation in extracurricular and co-curricular activities.

Controlled Substances

There is a zero tolerance policy regarding any and all use of controlled substances, including alcohol, drugs, and tobacco products.
